AS USUAL, the airwaves are filled with parades as well as football games on New Year`s Day. The first parade coverage begins at 9 a.m. on CBS-Ch. 2 with Ana Alicia, Kevin Dobson, Susan Howard and Lorenzo Lamas telling viewers about the floats in the 28th annual ”Cotton Bowl Parade” in Dallas.

Three stations are covering the 96th annual ”Tournament of Roses Parade,” in Pasadena, Calif. At 9:30 a.m., WFLD-Ch. 32 presents a pre-parade look at behind-the-scenes preparations. Its parade coverage starts at 10:30 a.m., hosted by Bill Welsh and Mary Hart.

NBC-Ch. 5 begins its coverage of the ”Tournament of Roses Parade” at 10 a.m. with David Hasselhoff, Sarah Purcell and Pat Sajak commenting on the more than 250 equestrian units and 22 musical groups that are set to perform along the 5 1/2-mile route.

Bob Barker, Mary Frann, Gerald McRaney and Joan Van Ark are the commentators for the same parade at 10:30 a.m. on CBS-Ch. 2.

More than 59 floats will incorporate the ”Spirit of America” theme of the parade.
