Samuel Davis, 95, a retired owner of a Southwest Side clothing store who owned several grocery stores and other businesses in Chicago for more than 50 years, died Sunday in Weiss Memorial Hospital. Mr. Davis, of the Edgewater neighborhood, came to Chicago from Russia in 1914 and opened a livery shop. He later owned three grocery stores and a laundry shop before buying the Consumer Surplus Store, 835 W. 79th St., in 1945. He operated that store until 1975, when he retired. Mr. Davis is survived by two sons, Herman and Sol; two daughters, Lillian Kaiz and Loretta Weinberg; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great- grandchildren. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel at 1300 W. Devon Ave.
