In your editorial of Dec. 27, ”A means test for veterans,” you congratulate the Reagan administration for braving the wrath of veterans`

organizations by preparing to cut veterans` health benefits. Specifically, you commend the proposal to remove health care from veterans with nonservice-connected illnesses who have incomes of $15,000 a year or more for a family of two.

Your editorial states: ”There is no reason for the federal government to provide free care to affluent veterans whose illnesses are not a product of their experiences in uniform.” May I point out that a family of two with an income of $15,000 is hardly affluent?
