Center Dan Issel will end his 15-year pro basketball career at the close of this season, according to Denver Nuggets` coach Doug Moe. ”I knew he was thinking about retirement,” Moe said. ”And he`d rather go ahead and announce it now than have people keep asking about it for the rest of the season. If I had enough money, I`d probably retire, too. He`s had such a great career, and he has that 36-year-old body. Plus, he isn`t a Kareem (Abdul-Jabbar) type of center. Dan`s got to really run and work for his points.”

— Milwaukee Bucks` guard Mike Dunleavy may never play again. Dunleavy injured his back Dec. 1 when an airplane the Bucks were riding stopped suddenly on a Baltimore runway to avoid hitting a fuel truck. He has a herniated disc in his spine.

— Three Kansas City, Mo., officials will visit this week with the vice president of the National Basketball Association to discuss the city`s pro basketball future. The Kings` ownership reportedly has made the decision to apply for a transfer next season to Sacramento, Calif.
