Sidekicks update–At 9-20, the Sidekicks have the worst record in the Major Indoor Soccer League. Yet they gave the Sting fits Tuesday in Dallas. The Sidekicks` leading scorers, Tatu (31-14-45) and Mark Karpun (20-12-32), have accounted for more than one-third of Dallas` 221 total points. With three goals against the Sting, Mark Kerlin became the only Dallas player other than Tatu to score a hat trick. Mark Evans` strong game against the Sting earned him defensive star of the game honors. Goalkeeper Jan van Beveren, who splits the chores with Billy Phillips, looked sharp Tuesday.

Sting update–The Sting was somewhat embarrassed in the loss to expansion Dallas. It was the first time the Sting ever lost an indoor match to a first- year team. Karl-Heinz Granitza notched his 33d career regular-season hat trick Tuesday, while Manny Rojas scored one goal and assisted on two others. That game also marked the debut of goalkeeper Victor Nogueira as a field player.
