The Tribune`s lead editorial of May 6, ”A compromise comes unglued,”
urges austerity as the only way to reduce the federal budget deficit, which means, ”Everyone gives a little in the knowledge that everyone else is giving too.” How naive! One group is not asked to share the austerity–people getting benefits from the indexing of income tax rates. Cut COLAs, yes. But cut indexing for upper-income recipients? No. You must be kidding.
