Abacus Group, a Chicago-based mortgage banking company, has changed its name, effective immediately, to Abacus Real Estate Finance Group. Kenneth P. Braun, Abacus chairman, said, ”The new name was adopted to more accurately reflect the expanding role of the company in providing a full range of financial services to members of the national and international real estate lending community.”. Abacus is a unit of Heller Financial Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Heller International, which in turn is a subsidiary of Fuji Bank Ltd. of Japan. Abacus has a servicing portfolio of more than $1.9 billion in commercial real estate loans. The firm has originated about $6 billion in real estate financing since its founding in 1965.
