Orders for machine tools were $183.5 million in April, down 34 percent from March, and tool shipments were valued at $169.8 million, down 25 percent, the National Machine Tool Builders Association said Monday. The value of new orders was the lowest so far in 1985; the value of shipments was greater than in January and February.
