As internal auditor of a well-capitalized, federally insured, 75-year-old thrift institution, I am offended by your depiction of savings and loan associations in a recent editorial cartoon.

Although the media will cry foul over anyone`s attempt to limit their constitutional freedoms, some restraint is necessary to prevent the effect of shouting ”fire” in a crowded theater. At best, The Tribune used poor judgment in unnecessarily undermining the confidence Chicagoans place in S&Ls.
