Molex Inc. reported earnings fell 19 percent in its fiscal fourth quarter and blamed softness in the electronic-components market and the strength of the U.S. dollar for the decline.

In the quarter, ended June 30, net income fell to $8 million, or 40 cents a share, from $9.9 million, or 49 cents a share, in the year-earlier period.

Sales declined 5 percent, to $66.2 million from $69.8 million.

For the full year, the Lisle electronic-components firm had net income of $31.2 million, or $1.55 a share, off 18 percent from $38.2 million, or $1.91 a share, in fiscal 1984.

Sales increased slightly, to $253.2 million from $252.2 million.
