The college football season, which is beginning to stretch out as long as its big brother the pro season, opens Thursday with Brigham Young against Boston College at 7 p.m. on WGN-TV (Channel 9). BYU`s Cougars, last year`s national champions, will have a chance to prove again they really are good. The Eagles will have a chance to find out if there`s life after Flutie. Elsewhere, the baseball season dwindles down, with the Cubs playing the Atlanta Braves at 1:15 p.m. on WGN-TV and WTBS (cable) and the White Sox taking on the Texas Rangers at 7:30 p.m. on WFLD-TV (Channel 32).
