Dieter Brock may not make Los Angeles Rams fans forget Bob Waterfield or Norm Van Brocklin, but the 34-year old import from the Canadian Football League should dim the memories of recent Ram quarterbacks Vince Ferragamo, Pat Haden, Dan Pastorini and Bert Jones.

”I thought Dieter played a perfect game,” said coach John Robinson after an exhibition outing against St. Louis. ”He looked like a guy who`s been in the NFL for 11 or 12 years.”

Ferragamo says he`s happy now that he has taken up residence in Buffalo after hearing frequent boos as a Ram.

”I feel more at ease with my present situation,” Ferragamo declares.

”When you have a great runner (Eric Dickerson), you must let him run. The offensive philosophy shifts, which is probably good for the team, but not the easiest for a quarterback, who must work into the rhythm of that kind of attack. At Buffalo, the job will be a little more conventional.”

— Running back Owen Gill, Iowa`s career rushing leader and a second-round draft pick of the Seattle Seahawks, has been claimed off the NFL waiver list by the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts announced the move today and released fullback Newton Williams. Gill, a 6-foot-1-inch, 230-pounder, scored 22 touchdowns for Iowa and gained 2,556 yards on 489 carries for the Hawkeyes. As a senior last year, he accumulated 920 yards on 199 carries and also caught 22 passes for 201 yards.

— Vikings` running back Chuck Muncie, recently reinstated after a one-year suspension for drug problems, has been suspended for Sunday`s game against the 49ers because he missed two therapy sessions. NFL commissioner Pete Rozelle said Muncie had violated one of the conditions of his

reinstatement.

— Vikings rookie Tim Newton, who was expected to start at nose tackle, was arrested for possession of marijuana at a Minneapolis bar Thursday night. General manager Mike Lynn said he has notified the NFL. The Vikings and the league were planning to investigate it.
