Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. said it is taking pretax charges totaling $100 million for its fiscal year, ending Oct. 31, as part of a ”major restructuring” of tire operations in North America. Firestone is closing its car-tire plant in Albany, Ga., and ending the production of tires for passenger cars and trucks at its plant in Des Moines, eliminating a total of 2,550 jobs.
