Pete Baranek rushed for a Division III-record 370 yards on 24 carries Saturday to pace Carthage to a 33-28 victory over North Central in Naperville. Dave Bednarek of Wisconsin-River Falls had 342 yards in 1983 against Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Baranek`s total was only 12 yards shy of the all-division mark held by Northern Iowa`s Kelly Ellis.

Wheaton`s Keith Bishop also put some great numbers on the board. He was 32 of 50 for 465 yards, 3 touchdowns and no interceptions as the Crusaders beat Elmhurst 49-15. Concordia`s Rob Shippy is another quarterback used to big numbers. He was 23 for 47 for 511 yards and 4 TDs, including 3 to Todd Black in the fourth quarter, as the Cougars beat Concordia (Wis.) 49-48. Black had 10 catches for 210 yards.

Augustana is a school used to great numbers. The Vikings extended the nation`s longest winning streak to 28 with a 30-7 triumph over Illinois Wesleyan. Augie has won 44 straight regular-season games and 39 in a row in the College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin.

Top games

Carthage 33, North Central 28–Baranek scored on runs of 74, 71, 59 and 50 yards. Carthage is 1-3, 1-2. Tim Peck had 140 yards on 30 carries and a TD for the Cardinals (2-3, 1-3), who led 14-12 at halftime.

Wheaton 49, Elmhurst 15–The Crusaders (2-2, 2-2) led 49-0 in Elmhurst. Jim Jorden had 8 receptions for 90 yards and 3 TDs. The Bluejays are 3-1, 2-1. Concordia (Ill.) 49, Concordia (Wis.) 48–The teams gained 1,189 yards in Mequon, Wis. A two-point conversion pass with 4:47 left gave the Cougars (2-3, 1-0) the victory. John Tomasini rushed for 145 yards and a TD for the Falcons (2-3, 0-1). Mike Majewski threw for two TDs and ran for another.

Augustana 30, Illinois Wesleyan 7–Brad Price rushed for 169 yards on 23 carries, including a 31-yard TD, in Rock Island, Ill. Augie (4-0, 4-0) used 14 running backs to pick up 353 yards. Wesleyan (2-3, 2-2) was held to 24 yards rushing and 118 total yards.

Carroll 27, North Park 11–Dave Weber (18 of 31 for 269 yards) threw two TD passes. Chris Gustafson kicked two field goals, including a CCIW-record 59- yarder. Carroll is 1-3, 1-3. David Bridges (115 yards on 19 carries) became the all-time leading rusher at North Park (0-4, 0-3) with 2,085 yards. He scored on a 49-yard run.

St. Norbert 18, Lake Forest 7–Kurt Rotherham and Mark Binder each ran for a second-half TD in DePere, Wis. The Green Knights are 3-1, 3-0. The Foresters (3-2, 1-2) had just 157 yards, including zero yards rushing on 37 attempts.

Lawrence 21, Chicago 7–Steve Dobbe recovered teammate Steve Johnson`s fumble in the end zone for the go-ahead TD in the fourth quarter in Appleton, Wis. Bob Sell had two field goals. Lawrence is 4-1, 2-1. The Maroons (3-2, 1-2) had minus-12 yards rushing.

Lakeland 23, Northeastern Illinois 0–Rich Matelko scored twice and Tim Gause ran 64 yards for a third TD in Sheboygan, Wis. One of Matelko`s TDs came on 71-yard pass from Scott Knight. The Fighting Muskies are 3-1, 1-1. NEIU is 0-4, 0-1.

Illinois Benedictine 30, Olivet Nazarene 6–Joe Marley blocked a punt and recovered it for a TD as Benedictine (3-2) ran up a 30-0 lead in Kankakee. IBC is 3-2. Olivet is 0-3.

Millikin 24, Southwest Baptist (Mo.) 0–John Cardamone was 14 of 26 for 248 yards and TDs of 52 yards to Jeff Query and 31 yards to Darrell Watts in Decatur, Ill. Query had 4 catches for 133 yards. Millikin is 4-0. Baptist

(1-3) gained only 104 yards.

Cornell 44, Knox 8–Chuck Hooker threw two TD passes and the Rams (5-0, 3-0) took advantage of six turnovers by the Siwash (0-5, 0-3) in Galesburg, Ill. Cornell scored twice on interception returns and recovered a fumble in the end zone.

Monmouth 19, Illinois College 0–Brian Hall scored twice on 1-yard runs in Jacksonville, Ill. David Coker added a 13-yarder. Monmouth (2-3, 1-2)

gained 338 yards to 63 for IC (1-4, 1-1).

Eureka 34, Iowa Wesleyan 33–Tony Christiano (14 of 30 for 231 yards)

threw for four TDs in Eureka, Ill. Don Bulen had 7 catches for 171 yards and 3 TDs. Eureka is 2-3. Wesleyan is 0-4.

Manchester 30, Principia 6–Scott Smith ran for 145 yards and 2 TDs and Robert Moon and Matt Starr each ran for one score in Elsah, Ill. Manchester

(3-1) rushed for 381 yards. Principia (1-3) gained 84 yards.

Other games–Steve Klekamp threw three TD passes, including two to Eric Schmeisfer, to lead Harper (5-1, 4-1) to a double-overtime victory over Du Page (4-2, 3-2) in Glen Ellyn. The winning score was a 17-yard pass to Schmeisfer, who caught a 3-yarder with 21 seconds left in regulation. Lou Rotundo had three interception for Du Page, and Lorenzo Davis rushed for 121 yards on 28 carries. . . . Todd Works scored on a 66-yard run with 3:53 left, but Illinois Valley (3-3, 2-3) failed on a two-point conversion pass in a 7-6 loss to Moraine Valley (5-1, 5-1) in Palos Hills. IVCC missed field-goal tries of 32 and 42 yards. Tom Fuessel scored on a 1-yard run for Moraine. . . . Greg Freeman threw TD passes of 17 and 6 yards and ran 4 yards for another score in Joliet`s 26-3 victory over Thornton (0-6, 0-5).
