Air Force`s passing attack doesn`t take off very often, but when it does, it can be as effective as an F-16. Bart Weiss was only 2 of 7, but set up two touchdowns with passes of 60 and 53 yards as the 6-0 Falcons beat Navy 24-7 Saturday before a record crowd of 35,663 in Annapolis, Md.
”This was a special game for us–the whole Pentagon was here,” said Air Force coach Fisher DeBerry.
Well, maybe not the whole Pentagon. Gen. John A. Wickham Jr., the Army chief of staff, probably was more interested in Army`s 45-14 victory over Boston College. The Cadets are 5-0 for the first time since 1950.
Pitt came back from a 10-0 deficit to beat North Carolina State 24-10. Charles Gladman, who had played sparingly in the last two games because of a rib injury, rushed for 176 yards on 27 carries for the Panthers (3-2-1).
”Gladman softened their defense up,” said Pitt coach Foge Fazio.
”Gladman was running wild.”
