Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...
E.L.C. Broomes is entitled to his ”Point of view.” But his ”Seat belts may cause fatalities” essay contains so many outright misstatements of well- established fact that its publication constitutes a reckless disregard for the truth by Broomes and by Tribune editors. This is a noncontroversial subject with clear data; it would be impossible to find any recognized motor- vehicle safety expert who would agree with Broomes` ”facts.”
It is reasonable to assume that Broomes` misinformation will influence some people in their decision as to whether or not to use seat belts. The Tribune`s failure to responsibly restrict or correct such blatant factual errors will therefore result in increased highway deaths.
