It was billed as ”An Evening on the Left Bank,” an event featuring three levels of entertainment at Helene Curtis` art deco building fronting the Chicago River. Last week`s benefit for the Urban Gateways Arts Center treated guests, including French Consul Max de Calbiac and his wife, Bianca, to scenes from Shakespeare`s ”A Midsummer Night`s Dream” and French songs from Valucha de Castro.
During a buffet dinner, the jazz tunes of ”Bach to Bebop” entertained guests, some of whom arrived in `20s attire. Shakespearean actor Tom Tresser captured diners` attention with his delivery of lines from ”Romeo and Juliet”: ”It is my lady. It is my love.” —
