Has midnight revelry, pub-crawling and partying in the wee hours gone out of style? Or has working around the clock become a reality?
One portent is the late-late popularity of Kinko`s Copies, 2451 N. Lincoln Ave. On one recent autumn night, with the street deserted and the bars looking bleak, the 24-hour show only a few doors north of the Biograph Theater was the place to make a late-night rendevous.
All copiers were in action, and customers were lined up. A lawyer made copies of briefs, a musician duplicated a musical score, a PTA officer reproduced meeting announcements and several theater types mulled over program-cover color possibilities, finally placing an order to be picked up by 8 a.m.
”Is it always this busy at this hour?” demanded one tired and incredulous customer. The bleary-eyed attendant shrugged: ”It goes in waves and sometimes slows down about 2.”
