Taylor Hackford, director of ”An Officer and a Gentleman” and ”Against All Odds,” will be in town Friday to attend the premiere of his latest film, ”White Nights,” starring dance greats Mikhail Baryshnikov and Gregory Hines.
The 21st Chicago International Film Festival is sponsoring the preview and a gala celebration after the screening in the State of Illinois Center, 100 W. Randolph St. Cocktails, hors d`oeuvres, entertainment and dancing will highlight the party, which some of the cast members are expected to attend.
Tickets are $50 per person for Cinema/Chicago members and $60 for nonmembers. For reservations, call 644-3400.

Opera fans can take in a free concert and may see some future stars Nov. 18 at the regional finals of the Metropolitan Opera`s auditions in Orchestra Hall. The auditions begin at 7:30 p.m. and are open to the public without charge. Seats are not reserved, and tickets are not required.
LEARNING
AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome) will be the topic of free public forums the Chicago Public Library will sponsor this month. Part of the library`s new AIDS Information Program, the forums will explore the disease from three perspectives: public awareness, medical implications and psychological/support services.
Dr. Renslow Sherer, codirector of the Sable/Sherer Clinic of Cook County Hospital, is among the scheduled panelists.
Dates and locations of the forums are: 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Sulzer Regional Library, 4455 N. Lincoln Ave.; 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 16 in the Woodson Regional Library, 9525 S. Halsted St.; and noon to 2 p.m. Nov. 19 in the library`s Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington St.

Fashion will be the business at hand Monday during a seminar focusing on getting started and operating in the apparel industry. Designers and fashion retailers will speak on topics such as developing a business plan, setting up and staffing a workroom and selling designs to retailers during ”The One-Day MBA (Master of the Business of Apparel) Program.”
The program will run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Holiday Inn Mart Center (in the Apparel Center), 350 N. Orleans St., with a cocktail hour and showing of designs by Reginald Thomas and Anko after the seminar.
