Norman Parkinson is a photographer with a benign eye. You can see that, he says, in the respect for his subjects that comes through in his work.

”Parks,” as he`s known, has photographed some of the world`s most fabulous and famous faces. At a Chicago party for Parks for a promotion cosponsored by Town and Country Magazine and the Diamond Information Center, Jane Ylvisaker, who was among the women socialite/fundraiser s he photographed in diamonds for Town & Country`s October issue, recalled her session with him: ”It was fun. He makes funny noises. He makes you laugh.”

His current favorite photo is one he did recently of Britain`s Queen Mother Elizabeth with her four grandchildren, Princess Anne and Princes Charles, Andrew and Edward. The photo, taken for the Queen Mother`s 85th birthday this year, ”required 18 months to organize. They`re all over the place, you know.”

The dowager queen, he says, fits his definition of a beautiful woman:

”It`s a bloom, a radiance, something that comes from within a woman even after her physical looks have gone. In the case of the Queen Mother, it arises from her unselfishness and concern for others.”
