I greatly enjoyed your well-written and photographed story ”Digging in” about the plight of the American family farmer. It seems that many ways of life that once formed a core in this country are foundering–witness the railroad network in the United States, steel working, etc.

I`m wondering–will America be dependent upon agribusinesses in the future? Imagine a fair in the year 2000 with exhibits of extinct ways of life. One exhibit might show a statue of someone as hard working and determined as Dick Stoxen with the caption, ”American Family Farmer.” Horrible to contemplate, isn`t it?
