The Los Angeles Rams, a team on a mission to capture respect, will travel to Chicago next Sunday to meet the Bears for the National Football Conference title.
The Rams qualified for the trip by ripping Dallas 20-0 Saturday in Anaheim, Calif. It was the first time the Cowboys had been blanked in 36 playoff games.
”We`ve been underrated all year, even when we were 7-0,” said Rams`
cornerback Gary Green. ”Critics, fans, press–that`s all they`ve done is rip our offense.”
The Rams` offense was one-dimensional against the Cowboys. Eric Dickerson rushed for an NFL playoff record of 248 yards on 34 carries. He scored two touchdowns.
”That`s why he makes a million dollars a year,” Rams` guard Dennis Harrah said of Dickerson. ”I wish I could run.”
Speaking of lack of respect, the Cleveland Browns were given little chance of success against the Dolphins in their AFC match in Miami. The Browns (8-8), the first team without a winning record over a full season to make the playoffs, raced to a 21-3 lead in the third quarter. Then the Dolphins scored three touchdowns in the final 18 minutes for a 24-21 victory.
