It surely would be nice if the news media would make some sort of comparisons when mentioning such facts as ”2,000 persons killed in the world in airline accidents this year.” Comparison: Approximately 100,000 persons died in traffic accidents in the world during that same time.

Or: A gallon of gasoline only cost about 28 cents in the 1930s. But a worker made only around 50 cents per hour if he was lucky.

Another comparison: Approximately 10,000 persons died of gunshot wounds in one year. However, 300,000 persons legitimately saved themselves from some sort of criminal attack by the use of firearms this year.
