The Feld Ballet, directed by Eliot Feld, will dance 12 works, including seven Chicago premieres, for its two-week run, opening Tuesday, at Goodman Theatre.
In addition to the Feld company`s 23 dancers, the engagement will feature Karen Kain of the National Ballet of Canada and Feld alumna Christine Sarry as guest artists.
Among the new pieces to be shown here are Feld`s ”Aurora I” and
”Aurora II,” set to music by Steve Reich and performed primarily on slanting ramps, and ”Medium: Rare,” also by Feld and Reich, a virtuoso solo for 24-year-old James Sewell on ramps and a trampoline. Other new works are
”Return to Maria La Baja,” by Alison Chase and Robby Barnett of the Pilobolus company, and the companion pieces ”Envelope” and ”Caught,” by David Parsons.

Tuesday, Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at 8 p.m., and Jan. 26 at 2:30 p.m.: ”The Grand Canon” (music by Steve Reich), Chicago premiere of ”Medium: Rare” (Reich), ”At Midnight” (Gustav Mahler), with Karen Kain in the cast Jan. 26 only, and ”The Jig Is Up” (various composers).
Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.: ”The Consort” (various composers), Chicago premiere of ”Return to Maria La Baja” (Chase and Barnett/music by Paul Sullivan), ”Intermezzo No. 1” (Johannes Brahms), with guest artist Christine Sarry.
Jan. 21-23 at 7:30 p.m.: Chicago premieres of ”The Envelope” (Parsons/ Gioacchino Rossini), ”Caught” (Parsons/Robert Fripp), ”Aurora I” and
”Aurora II” (Reich).
Jan. 24 and 25 at 8 p.m.: ”The Consort,” Chicago premiere of
”Impromptu” (Albert Roussel), danced by Karen Kain, ”At Midnight,” with Kain in the cast, and ”The Jig Is Up.”
Jan. 25 at 2:30 p.m.: ”The Envelope,” ”Caught,” ”Return to Maria La Baja,” ”The Consort.”
