Isn`t it strange how money can suddenly cause a divided city council to become so cooperative! The 45 percent aldermanic salary increase that they voted for themselves is outrageous when compared with the 5 percent that 22,000 city employees will receive.

Many people in private industry did not receive an increase, in fact, some had to take a cut in pay and/or fringe benefits.

What irks me is the sneaky manner that this was slipped into the Chicago budget, by voice vote without debate or roll call.

All of this took place during the Christmas holiday season. I wonder how many people will remember this on election day.
