The Robert R. McCormick Charitable Trust distributed a record $6.6 million in grants in 1985, with funds going to health, educational, welfare and cultural organizations, primarily in the Chicago area. The trust was established under the will of Col. Robert R. McCormick, the former editor and publisher of The Chicago Tribune who died on April 1, 1955.
