An editorial Jan. 18 stated that a bill now before the legislature would require background checks of teachers and other school personnel ”as a condition of certification.” This requirement became law in 1985. The new bill would include fingerprinting and extend the requirement to school personnel who are already employed. It is intended to disclose any past convictions for criminal offenses involving children.
