Chicago aldermen seriously misjudged the limits of taxpaying citizens`
patience when, at a pre-holiday council meeting, in a voice vote to disguise their embarrassing cowardice and individual culpability, they awarded themselves a nearly 50 percent pay increase.
This disgraceful display of arrogance and unconcern for Chicago`s beleaguered taxpayers should not be tolerated.
Chicagoans are fair minded and willing to pay equitably for the services of responsible elected officials, but such a large increase is unwarranted and undeserved.
