But BHP, the country`s leading oil and steel producer, promptly rejected the $1.3 billion offer, signaling a bitter corporate brawl. The board of Broken Hill said, ”We are unanimous that the proposed offer is insincere.” The company has annual sales of nearly $7 billion.
