Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

If you`ve been collecting records related to the Chicago Bears, there`s yet another platter you can add to your hoard. ”The Super Bowl Trip,” by singer-songwriter-producer Glenn Sutton, is a country story-song about a radio listener who wins an expense-paid trip to the Super Bowl by naming 10 Bears during a sports quiz show.

The tune–which recounts the experiences of the lucky contestant before, during and immediately after last January`s game–is decidedly pro-Bears. Recalling his arrival in New Orleans, for example, the protagonist sings, ”I rushed right out to a souvenir stand/ Bought a pair of sunglasses and a cool head band/ `Cause I knew in my heart that the Bears were gonna win.”

The song–recently released by Mercury Records, which obviously hopes it will do well in the Chicago area–incorporates references to Jim McMahon, Walter Payton, William Perry, Willie Gault and Matt Suhey and mentions some of the Bears` big Super Bowl plays. It has indeed received some radio airplay here. But somehow you suspect it`s not doing all that well in parts of the Northeast.
