In the tradition of Gandhi and King, the revolution in the Philippines once again demonstrates that nonviolence can be successful in overcoming a brutal dictatorship and a superior military force. And yet the nations of the world continue to pour trillions of dollars into their armed forces, with the belief that power comes from the barrel of a gun. Isn`t it about time that we begin to seriously consider a policy of nonviolence as an alternative to military-based defense?
