TransCanada Pipelines pulled out of the multibillion-dollar takeover battle for liquor and energy giant Hiram Walker Resources, clearing the way for a bid from Gulf Canada. TransCanada said that after examining the options, it had decided not to proceed further in its bid. The company`s move came after Walker directors recommended that shareholders accept Gulf Canada`s bid of $2.38 billion ”in the absence of a higher offer.”
