Tim Costo, Glenbard South–The shortstop-pitcher went 10-for-16 with four homers, a double and 13 runs batted in and hiked his pitching record to 3-0 with a four-hit victory, striking out seven.
Mitch Goldstein, Niles North–The senior center-fielder and leadoff batter went 11-for-15 with two doubles, six RBIs, eight runs scored and four stolen bases, reaching base for the 16th time in 20 plate appearances.
Tony Scalzitti, Elmwood Park–The senior center-fielder went 17-for-24 with a homer, four triples, a double, five RBIs and four stolen bases as Elmwood Park swept seven games.
Mike Shea, Fenwick–The senior third baseman-pitcher went 11-for-12 with two triples, five doubles, five RBIs and five runs scored and improved his pitching record to 3-0 with a victory in a five-inning relief stint.
SOFTBALL
Sue Alexander, Oak Lawn–The senior shortstop went 7-for-13 with two homers–one a grand slam–a triple, three doubles and 12 RBIs as Oak Lawn swept four games.
Shannon Guillen, Marian Catholic–The junior pitcher won three games–two one-hitters and a three-hitter. She worked a total of 32 innings–including 13 in a suspended tie game–striking out 40 and giving up 11 hits and six walks. Laura Scafidi, Oak Park–The senior went 10-for-15 with two homers, seven RBIs and eight runs scored and posted a 4-2 pitching record with 22 strikeouts in 36 innings, helping Oak Park win the consolation title in the Evanston tournament.
TRACK AND FIELD
Tom Pukstys, Stagg–The senior set a meet record of 170 feet 4 inches in the discus and won the shot put with 53-7 in the Hinsdale South Invitational. He also had discus efforts of 170-8 in a dual meet and 171-8 in a triangular. Karen Holmes, Crete-Monee–The senior won the 200 meters (25.8 seconds)
and 400 meters (59.4) and anchored the winning 400-meter relay as Crete-Monee took the team championship in the Oak Forest Invitational.
Shellie O`Neal, Downers Grove North–The sophomore set a meet, school and career record of 18-2 1/4 for the long jump and anchored the winning 3,200-meter and 800-meter medley relays as Downers North won the team championship in the Glenbard South Invitational.
