Age: 48.

Occupation: TV host.

Birthplace: Los Angeles.

Current home: Beverly Hills, Calif.

Marital status: Married, for the second time, to Mary Ann Mobley for 18 years.

Children: Guy, 21, Melissa, 20, and Mary Clancy 17.

Working on: ”Hour Magazine,” a daily syndicated talk show.

Worst job: In high school when I worked for a flower company, starting at the bottom, mixing manure. No, I didn`t find a pony.

The last good movie I saw was: ”Out of Africa.”

I stay home to watch: ”MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour” and ”Sunday Morning.” The book I`ve been recommending lately: I`m wading through ”Texas,” by James Michener.

Favorite performer: Montgomery Clift.

Nobody knows I`m: Not as secure as they`d think I`d be.

I`d give anything to have met: Aristotle and Michelangelo.

The worst part of my job is: Dealing with issues, like AIDS, knowing there are no clear answers.

I want to teach my children: To explore everything.

My fantasy is: Sailing around the world.

The worst advice my mother ever gave me: Be an electronic engineer. The other day when I got my star on Hollywood Boulevard, she said, ”Well, I guess you`ve made it.”

The one thing I can`t stand is: People who won`t take responsibility.

If I could change one thing about myself, I would be: More assertive. I don`t negotiate well for myself.

People who knew me in high school thought I was: Wonderful. I was one of those good-looking kids who didn`t have to work for anything.

My most irrational act: Deciding to do ”Hour Magazine.” My wife was against it. I had had four series cancelled, and she said, ”If you fail in daytime TV, you`re finished.”

My most irrational fear: I was fine until I saw ”Jaws.”

My friends like me because: I`m a good person, I don`t have any ax to grind, I try to help them and I`m always be there for them.

Behind my back they say: He`s terrific.
