Your editorial regarding Wisconsin`s ”getting in line” by raising its drinking law to 21 years old again exemplifies our two-faced attitude towards 18- to 20-year-old citizens.

Why is it that a gray-bearded legislature can accept the maturity of an 18- year-old to become front line fodder in case of war; or why allow these youngsters to vote when they haven`t the good sense to drink alcoholic beverages with some degree of maturity?

Your last line in the article stated, ” . . . with age 21 drinking laws, lives will be saved as a result.” Wouldn`t a great number of lives also be saved if no one under 21 were allowed to serve in the armed forces?
