I`m just one of the Vietnam veterans who was within the ranks during the recent Chicago parade. My heart swelled and my eyes shed tears. it was hard to say, ”Thank you, Chicago,” or to clasp an outstretched hand without tears.

While in Vietnam I served as a platoon commander, team leader and special adviser but never as a cry baby. Over the years I had felt (and still do)

that our worst enemies while in Vietnam were not the Vietcong or the North Vietnamese but our own countrymen.

All I want to say now is that the pain has eased and I sincerely say,

”Thank you, thank you, thank you, Chicago.”
