A robbery suspect, fearing he would die in the electric chair, took at least 11 hostages and shot an elderly man before turning a gun on himself, only grazing his head, authorities said.

The arrest of James Murray Gordon, 30, a suspect in a hotel robbery in Unadilla, ended a two-hour hostage crisis Monday night at a motel in Cordele. Police said an unidentified 71-year-old man was shot in the head for failing to respond quickly to one of Gordon`s demands. The man was in fair condition at Crisp County Hosptial.
