Tony LaRussa`s old team played what could be his new team Friday.

Earlier in the day, A`s general manager Sandy Alderson called the ex-White Sox manager and asked if he would be interested in discussing the vacancy in Oakland. LaRussa said yes, and the pair agreed to meet in person.

”He called, and we agreed to talk again,” LaRussa said. ”I`m interested in going to a place that has a chance to win. The A`s have a chance to win.”

Alderson acknowledged that LaRussa is on the list of candidates to replace Jackie Moore, who was fired Thursday, but he wouldn`t elaborate.

A`s president Roy Eisenhardt said it will take seven to 10 days before a new manager is named. Others being mentioned are ex-Cub manager Jim Frey, Rene Lachemann, Frank Robinson and Dave Duncan, LaRussa`s pitching coach.
