My compliments on your editorial praising the talents of the late Benny Goodman. However, your evaluation of ”what audiences want” is worthy of review.
Recently I was among a huge audience enjoying an evening of big band music. It was refreshing to find neatly groomed, ”tuxed” musicians providing a melodic background for dancing and conversation.
Be not misled. There are multitudes who still prefer Goodman`s style and efforts to today`s dirty T-shirted pseudo-musicians in their smelly gymshoes.
