Being an older one of those ”severely damaged” (an insulting choice of words) people you wrote about in your Baby Doe editorial, I was delighted to see Stacey Stutzman`s poignant letter in ”Voice of the People.”

Ms. Stutzman`s letter rebukes your opinion with subtle style. She knows what you don`t: It`s ignorance that propagates the ”fate worse than death”

thinking. That, I fear, is The Tribune`s own particular disability.

As poet Vassar Miller wrote about people`s uninformed cursory perceptions of her disability:

”I wish you`d learn better before we all totter.

Into our coffins where`s there`s no straight way to the crooked.”
