Walter Otis Lane, charged in the 1985 abduction and slaying of a Blue Island bank director and his wife, is being held without bond in Cook County Jail pending a court appearance next week. Lane was indicted for the murders of George V. Malmgren Sr., 41, and his wife, Raquel, 45, of Palos Hills, who were shot to death July 1, 1985, after Lane allegedly kidnaped them and forced Malmgren to withdraw $15,000 from a bank. Lane was arrested in Rome last September and extradited to the U.S. last week.
