England had its ”Long Parliament” and its ”Rump Parliament” and others: We have our ”Phony Baloney Congress,” which has tried the oldest political trick of all, changing the subject and diverting attention when caught failing its duty.
This Congress faced the tasks of adopting a budget with a strong showing of a balanced budget sometime; attacking the drug problem; the balance of payments problem, the illegal immigration problem; the crime problem; curbing labor union abuses; strengthening the country`s defenses; and many more. What has Congress done? It changed the date for Daylight Saving Time to begin, and then emitted a smoke screen to conceal its wretched performance: Attack South Africa!
Never mind that South Africa is an ally, a friend, and located strategically and possessing strategic minerals this country must have. Never mind that all over Africa there are worse governments treating black people worse; never mind that the USSR kills more Afghans in a day than blacks are killed in South Africa in a year.
