Stephen Chapman, in his July 30 column, ”Our public schools are ignoring the role of religion,” wisely pointed out, ”You don`t have to be a Jesuit scholar to see the difference between evangelizing and examining the role of faith.” He further stated, ”Schools that try to provide education while ignoring religion only insult both.”

George Washington would seem to agree. In his farewell address, President Washington said, ” . . . reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.”
