Raymond Coffey must have dropped his objectivity in the waste basket when he wrote, ”You heard it here first: Rehnquist isn`t a liberal.”
Coffey accuses Ted Kennedy, Eleanor Smeal and other critics of William Rehnquist as being ”identified with Democratic and/or liberal causes.” What rot! Personally, I am grateful to Ted Kennedy, Jospeh Biden, Howard Metzenbaum and others for questioning Mr. Rehnquist as to where he stands on issues of civil rights, affirmative action, church-state separation and women`s rights. I have no objection to Mr. Rehnquist`s political conservatism, if indeed he is a true conservative and not a radical cloaked in the mantle of conservatism who will administer justice, not according to the Constitution, but according to personal whim.
