As a homeowner, business executive, and I hope a good citizen for over 30 years, I have never even dreamed of taking part in an activist protest. But Commonwealth Edison has just pushed me to the brink–$325 for one month`s worth of electricity is ridiculous!
I`m tired of Com Ed`s temperature statistics and other excuses. Sure it was hot in July, but in the 10 years we`ve lived in this house we`ve been through much hotter spells and we`ve never had a bill approaching this.
I really don`t care about the reasons–excessive capacity, costly nuclear plants, high rates to discourage usage, mismanagement or whatever. All I know is the current inflation rate is about 2 percent and if my company raised the prices of our products by a fraction of what Com Ed has done, we would soon be out of business.
It is a little embarrassing as a lifelong Republican to find myself agreeing with Mayor Washington and Mr. Stevenson, but I sure do on this issue! Fire the Illinois Commerce Commission

Whatever it takes, because $325 a month is practically confiscatory.
