Ellen Goodman`s gratuitous criticism of middle-aged people who play tennis despite the attendant aches of aging was offensive and

incomprehensible. And like Molly used to say, ”T`aint funny, McGee!”

One wonders how she feels in general about people overcoming handicaps in attempts to live fuller lives. Is she blind to ordinary courage?

Personally, we can`t wait for this poor imitation of Mike Royko to lay down her mean-spirited pen, head for her favorite dark corner in her middle- age, and moan about writer`s cramp.
