Robert A. Beck, longtime chairman and chief executive of Prudential Insurance Co. of America, will resign early next year, saying the timing is right ”physically and mentally.” Beck, who will be 61 next month, will be succeeded on Feb. 5 by Robert C. Winters, 54, one of two vice chairmen of the company, the nation`s largest insurance concern.
