I enjoyed Jon Anderson`s article on the Army`s decision to declare war on bad writing (or ”greenspeak”) within its ranks. I salute the Army on undertaking this long overdue offensive!
I wonder, though, if Mr. Anderson isn`t guilty of a little ”greenspeak” himself when he writes that the Army concluded that ”only a long-term U.S. commitment to linguistic support efforts could improve the Army`s cumbersome and often deadly prose.” Aim a bazooka at ”linguistic support efforts” and you come up with the much simpler ”better writing,” don`t you?
