Abbott Laboratories said it received Food and Drug Administration approval to market a new erythromycin antibiotic called PCE. The North Chicago-based company said the drug was developed to provide for fast, consistent absorption of erythromycin while minimizing gastrointestinal side effects. ”PCE will significantly expand the market for this classic antibiotic,” said Robert A. Schoellhorn, chairman and chief executive officer, in a speech to some European investors in Geneva.
