Senate Majority Leader Robert Dole (R., Kan.) said Congress may need to authorize a temporary debt ceiling extension of ”four or five days” before adjourning Oct. 3. Dole said the Treasury Department expects to run out of debt funding capability early next week unless some action is taken. House and Senate conferees are discussing a long-term debt limit increase.
